Part of Cheaha State Park is now open. The park was forced
to shut down for more than a week following the February 11th winter storm. It
knocked out power and caused trees to fall.
On Friday, business resumed at the hotel, restaurant, store and lower
campground. That's after power boxes were replaced. Half of the trails reopened
in time for a Saturday run. But four of
the eight trails remain closed because of debris. Park officials say that other areas will open
as limbs are removed and the area is safe. They also urge caution when visiting
Cheaha as repairs continue. Park
officials urge people to call before heading to the park. The telephone numbers
at 205-488-5111 and 1-800-610-5801.
