WEDNESDAY FORECAST

ABC 33/40 Forecast

Today's Forecast ImageWednesday February 12, 2014
Forecaster: James Spann

WINTER STORM WARNING: A powerful winter storm will produce a variety of weather problems for Alabama today. A large mass of rain will cover most of the state this morning, with potential for some freezing rain, sleet, and snow over the far north and northeast part of the state. Colder air will be pulled into Alabama from the east, and the rain will change to freezing rain and snow. The rain/snow line will move southwest, and should reach the Birmingham metro at some point this afternoon.

The heaviest accumulation of ice and snow today should be north of a line from Hamilton to Jasper to Birmingham to Sylacauga to Lafayette, where a winter storm warning remains in effect. Greatest snow should come over Northeast Alabama, where some places could see an additional 4 to 6 inches. Birmingham is right on the dividing line between rain and snow; the northeast suburbs could see one to two inches of snow, while communities just south and west of the city will see a cold, rainy day.

Mostly rain is expected over West and South Alabama
