Police in Attalla have charged Four Ashville residents in
connection with a Jan. 24 robbery at an Attalla gas station. 19 year old Brandon Marcus, and three
teenagers — 15- and 16-year-old males and a 16-year-old female — were each
charged with first-degree robbery. Investigators say the 15-year-old entered
the Chevron on Cleveland Avenue and waited for all the customers to leave. Once
the customers who already were in the store had left, he walked up to the cash
register, put a candy bar down and then said he had to grab a drink. Once he returned with the drink, the boy
handed the clerk a note and, as the clerk read it, pulled out a gun and
demanded the money in the store. Investigators said the boy got spooked and
left once the clerk ducked behind the counter.
He fled to a car being driven by Marcus that was waiting in the parking
lot of a nearby business. The car got onto Interstate 59 and headed toward
Ashville. The girl was charged because
she walked up to the 15-year-old and whispered something before asking the
clerk for a bathroom key, which she returned. The other 16-year-old was charged
because he allegedly wrote the note used in the robbery.
