Road Conditions Civil Emergency Declared


The Alabama Emergency Management Agency has issued a civil emergency for Marion, Winston, Blount, Etowah, Lamar, Fayette, Walker, Jefferson, St. Clair Counties, Calhoun and Cherokee counties.
Numerous roadways, including major thoroughfares and secondary roads, have become extremely hazardous to drive and some are impassable.
Brian Davis with the Alabama Dept. of Transportation is encouraging people to stay off the roads until at least lunch time today.
The roads in the following areas have been closed or deemed unsafe to drive:



Etowah County:
-US 431/278 going to Hokes Bluff is  icy.
-At 10:10 p.m., Etowah County Road Department has deemed all Etowah County-maintained roads as impassable.

Calhoun County:
-Hwy 21 north of Jacksonville towards Piedmont is  covered in ice and snow.
-Lenlock Lane is being reported as icy with problematic spots.
-Deputies reporting heavy sleet at the Hwy 431 Hwy 144 intersection.
-Oxford city roads re-opened at 10 p.m.

Blount County:
-Roads in Locust Fork are impassable as of 8 p.m.
-Roads in Snead are impassable as of 8 p.m.
-All Cleveland city roads are closed as of 8 p.m.
-Hwy 160 covered in ice as reported at about 7:45 p.m.

Cleburne County:
-Heflin city roads are closed

Talladega County:
-City of Talladega roads are closed.



St. Clair County:
-All roads are closed.
-Argo FD reports 2.5 inches of snow on roads.
-Margaret roads are impassable.
