Sylacauga teacher arrested on drug charges

Alicia Treece Walker

A fourth-grade teacher at sylacaugas Pinecrest Elementary School was arrested Wednesday and charged with possession of dangerous drugs.  27 year old Alicia Treece Walker, of Oxford was detained by Sylacauga police outside Fort Williams Pharmacy and transported to Talladega County Jail. Police Chief Chris Carden said police received a call from the pharmacy Wednesday around 4 p.m. reporting a possible forged prescription. Officers investigated and arrested Walker upon her exit from the pharmacy.  Talladega County Drug Task Force commander Jason Murray said Walker was in possession of Adderall, a stimulant primarily used to treat Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder in children.  Walker teaches language arts and Alabama history, according to the Pinecrest Elementary website. She has taught in Sylacauga schools since graduating from Jacksonville State University in 2008. Sylacauga Superintendent Dr. Todd Freeman said Walker has been placed on leave with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.  Murray said Adderall is fairly common in the area, with adults often using it to aid in weight loss. Walker is the second Sylacauga teacher arrested this school year. Former middle school teacher Rodricus Thomas was arrested in January on two counts of rape in the second degree and two counts of a school employee engaging in a sex act or deviant sexual intercourse with a student under the age of 19 years. Thomas, who taught physical education at Nichols-Lawson Middle School, resigned following his arrest. He waived a preliminary hearing in February, thus sending his case to grand jury to privately determine whether the charges against him warrant indictment.
