Gadsden man arrested in Steele bank robbery

Jamichal Kenyaman Hawkins

A 25 year old Gadsden man has been charged with 2 robberies at the Peoples Independent Bank of Steele the latest on Monday and another time in December.  Jamichal Kenyaman Hawkins, has been charged with two counts of first-degree robbery in St. Clair County. He is being held with no bond in the Etowah County Detention Center after he was taken into custody on a probation revocation charge.  The bank was robbed on Monday and on Dec. 6. Both times it was robbed by a masked man who was armed with a handgun and fled on foot. No injuries were reported in either robbery.  St. Clair County Undersheriff Billy Murray said there were more similarities between the two robberies than differences. He said the most striking difference between the two robberies was the time, as the first happened late in the afternoon while Monday’s robbery happened first thing in the morning.
