Work to get underway at Gadsden Airport

Work is slated to get underway  May 12th to repave of the main runway at Gadsdens Northeast Alabama Regional Airport.  Runway 624 runs east to west and is 7,000 feet long.  The runway was last repaved some 10 years ago and the new project will include repairing the underpinnings of the runway where needed, and a complete repaving.  McCartney Construction submitted the low bid of about $2.1 million and will have 95 working days to complete the project. The airport’s Instrument Landing System will be turned off during the work.  The Federal Aviation Administration has awarded the airport an additional $150,985 to repair cracks and seal Taxiway Alpha, which serves the main runway. The taxiway will be completely redone in a couple of years.
