Suspect pleads guilty to murder of Boaz man

Michael Stanley Townsel Jr.

One of three suspects charged in the death of Gary Lee Willis of Boaz pleaded guilty to murder Monday before the case even went before the grand jury.  28 year old Michael Stanley Townsel Jr.,  of Fort Payne admitted to shooting Willis then burning his body in a car in December 2013. Circuit Court Judge Tim Jolley sentenced Townsel to life in prison with the possibility of parole.  Marshall County District Attorney Steve Marshall said he doubts Townsel will ever be released and said he will object every time parole comes up. Two other suspects in Willis' death, Christopher Todd Cagle of Boaz and Delia May Downs of Albertville, are still waiting for a grand jury to hear their cases.
