Gadsden woman who once held flagpole sitting record passes away


Peggy Townsend spent 215 days atop flagpole at Glencoe restaurant 

67 year old Peggy Townsend Clark, who held the worlds record for flagpole sitting from 1963 until 1984, passed away Tuesday in a Gadsden Hospital. Mrs. Clark was known as Peggy on the flagpole as she set the world record for flagpole sitting in 1964.In a contest sponsored by radio station WGAD, Peggy won numerous prizes including a new car for setting a total of 215 days.  Graveside services will be held 12 noon Friday at Crestwood Cemetery Burial will be in Crestwood Cemetery. Crestwood Funeral Home is in charge of services.  The family requests in lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 10 am until the time of service.
