Sylacauga man convicted in 2005 rape



A Talladega County jury of six men and six women deliberated for just under 2 hours Tuesday before finding a Sylacauga man guilty of rape in the first degree and burglary in the second.  37 year old Aaron Lamont Looney, now faces 10 to 99 years or life in prison on the rape charge and 2 to 20 years for the burglary.  Prosecutors said Looney broke into the apartment of his victim about 5 a.m. on Jan. 9, 2005. The victim recognized him as They had gone to high school together .  After climbing up on top of a bucket and pulling out a window screen, Looney entered the apartment through the window. He woke the victim, who then tried to leave her room to get a telephone to call someone. He turned out the lights inside the house, grabbed her arms and threw her face down on her own bed.
Looney will be formally sentenced by Circuit Judge Bo Hollingsworth.
