Jacksonville hopes to get state help in completeing road to industrial park

The city of Jacksonville is hoping to secure money from a state fund to pay for the finishing touches on a new road to Jacksonville's industrial development park.
The City Council voted Monday to give Mayor Johnny Smith permission to work to secure $75,000 from a bond from the Alabama Department of Finance. If awarded,  the money will go toward adding curbs, gutters and sod along the road, which is being built from Jacksonville-Alexandria Road into the park.
City Administrator Jarrod Simmons said the money was granted to the city about four years ago, but at the time Jacksonville had no projects that qualified. Now the city is submitting the road project for funding with the hope that the state will release the money because it will aid in the development development of the industrial park.
