Sherrif calls for improvements at dangerous intersection

Sheriff Larry Amerson

Changes could come to what officials call a dangerous intersection in Calhoun County.
The intersection at Highway 431 and Bynum-Leatherwood Road is the same place where a deputy was struck by a vehicle on Monday while directing traffic around an accident.
Sheriff Larry Amerson said he's going to contact the Alabama Department of Transportation about installing a traffic light, which he believes would make the intersection safer.
Amerson said It's dark right there in the best of circumstances there's are no lights marking intersection when you come in...that's the main route for people going into the Anniston Army Depot, lots of traffic for everybody going in and out. It's a difficult intersection
The injured deputy is being treated at UAB Hospital, where doctors say he has a long recovery ahead of him.
The sheriff's office has established an account to help cover the deputy's wife and family's expenses relating to his hospital stay in Birmingham. You can donate at http://www.youcaring.com/medical-fundraiser/injured-deputy/254282
