Talladega man faces possible life sentence after burglary conviction

Edward Charles Lewis

A Talladega man is facing life in prison after having been convicted of burglary in the second degree.
A Talladega County jury deliberated for about an hour and a half before convicting  39 year old Edward Charles Lewis,  of breaking into a house on Riddle Road in September 2013. Lewis has three prior convictions -- one for escape and two other burglaries -- so the range of punishment for his most recent conviction is 20 to 99 years or life in prison.
Lewis was accused of breaking into an occupied home on Riddle Road and stealing a 50-inch flat screen TV. The victim in the case saw him and told police that he looked familiar but she did not know his name.  Meantime, two other women were sitting on their porch in Curry Court and did recognize Lewis, who was there with another man. The women also said they saw Lewis putting a large television into a small car.
