Ten Thousand chickens lost in friday fire



Oxford Firefighters managed to extinguish a blaze late Friday that damaged a major portion of a Bynum chicken house.
Fire officials say The owner lost about 10,000 chickens to the fire.
Oxford fire Chief Gary Sparks said his firefighters were aided Friday evening by the Mt. Olive Fire Department and the Anniston Army Depot, which supplied tanker trucks to assist. 
Fire officials say The fire that destroyed most of the chicken house, located on Bynum Boulevard across from the Kronospan plant, was likely started by an electrical short.
There were no injuries to firefighters, but the owner lost about 10,000 chickens to the blaze.
“He had about 18,000 chickens in there and got about 8,000 out.
