Cherokee officials seeking ways to market Lake

Weiss Lake

Officials in Cherokee county are working to expand efforts to exploit the counties biggest asset, Weiss lake.    More than three dozen elected officials, community leaders and local anglers recently gathered in Cherokee County to talk about possible ways to promote the area and bring more fishing events to the county.  Weiss Lake is one of the top in the state for bass fishing, but was passed over for the Alabama Bass Trail Tournament due to lack of infrastructure in the County. More specifically, there just isn’t enough lodging in the area to support the number of visitors such a tourist event would bring to the area. The event went to lake Guntersville.  Officials say Hosting a fishing tournament would pump hundreds-of-thousands of dollars into the local economy.
