Weaver Seeking to Annex property

The city of Weaver is again looking to expand their city limits along Alabama highway 21 between Jacksonville and Anniston.  Almost 19 acres of land and more than a half-mile long strip of highway property could be incorporated if legislation is approved in Montgomery. The land does not currently connect to any Weaver boundary, requiring the legislation for the annexation  to occur. Weaver Mayor Wayne Willis said he hopes the property will attract some more business to the city.   Willis said, he thinks once construction of the Anniston Eastern bypass is completed, the section of Alabama 21 heading toward Jacksonville could become prime real estate for a big box store.
