Amy Renee Martin

A 29 year old  Southside woman pleaded guilty Wednesday to 13 felony counts and has been sentenced to more than 97 months to be overseen by Etowah County Community Corrections.  Amy Renee Martin, appeared before Judge Allen Millican and pleaded guilty to six counts of third-degree burglary, six counts of first-degree theft of property and one count of unlawful possession of a controlled substance. Because of recently implemented Mandatory Sentencing Guidelines, Martin received a prison sentence of 97 months — more than eight years — which was diverted through Etowah County Community Corrections.  District attorney Jimmy Harp said The homes that Ms. Martin burglarized were within walking distance of her home.  Only jewelry was stolen in each of the burglaries. Police tracked down Martin after she sold some jewelry to a business in Rainbow City. She initially was arrested and released on bond on charges of receiving stolen property.  About three months later, she was arrested on burglary and theft charges after she was caught by a home owner at his residence on Katherine Street in Southside. The drug charge was added after officers obtained a warrant and searched her residence on Nabors Drive in Southside.
