Glencoe police arrested an 18-year-old Glencoe man Saturday as they investigated three nights of vandalism at the Briarmeade Golf Club that culminated in an estimated $15,000 in damage done late Friday or early Saturday. Glencoe Police Chief Jonathon Horton said he expects the 18-year-old and at least two juveniles will face charges in juvenile court in connection with the incident.Briarmeade owner Mason Cothran discovered the damage about 6 a.m. Saturday morning. On two previous nights, someone had driven four-wheelers or golf carts over the property, collected pins and threw some in the lake and left others in a pile. There was damage to the greens, including profanity carved into the course with the stakes on the pins, and Cothran could tell that the vandals had gotten into some of the buildings.
What he found Saturday was far more serious. Rocks were thrown
through windows. They broke into the cart barn. Three golf carts were driven
into the lake and two others into ditches. Briarmeade staff and Cothran’s
family and friends surmised the vandals might have got the carts going as fast
as they could and jumped off as they went into the lake.
