Preliminary hearing set for Anniston murder suspect

A new preliminary hearing has been set for an Anniston woman charged with murder in the May shooting death of an Anniston man.  46 year old Pam DeAnn Smith, is charged in the murder of 39 year old Casey Lynn Payne, of Anniston. Smith has been free on a $50,000 bond since her arrest the day after the shooting..  Payne was shot in the chest with a shotgun on May 26 at Smith’s home on Parkwood Drive in Anniston. Payne did not live at the home, but Smith and Payne knew one-another.  Calhoun County District Judge Chris McIntire had set Smith’s hearing for Monday, but Smith did not have an attorney when she appeared in court. McIntyre appointed attorney Allen Meighan to represent Smith, and set Smith’s preliminary hearing for July 17 at 10 a.m.
