Tornado cleanup nearing end

Etowah county officials say About 1,000 tons of construction debris and 15,000 tons of vegetation debris have been picked up from the roadside in the tornado-ravaged community of Smith Institute. However, the last day to place debris on the side of the roads in that community is this Friday.  C
ounty road department employees have picked up debris since the tornado hit on the early morning of April 29, but most of the clean-up is winding down.
