JSU Player injured in Anniston shooting

Anniston police are investigating a shooting outside a local bar that wounded Jacksonville State running back Troymaine Pope.  Pope suffered a gunshot wound to his right bicep while trying to run for safety after gunfire erupted in the parking lot of AJ's Sunset Grill around 5:20 a.m. Sunday morning. The injury was non-life threatening.  Pope, an Anniston High School graduate, is preparing for his sophomore season with the Gamecocks. He played in seven games in 2013, accounting for 245 yards rushing and one touchdown as a true freshman. He also had a receiving touchdown.

No arrests have been made in the case. Anyone with information regarding the shooting is urged to please contact the Anniston Police Department at 256-240-4000.
