Plans for a Coosa Riverfront Park in East Gadsden are progressing, with the
city receiving approval last week from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and
the U.S. Coast Guard. The only regulatory hurdles now facing the park are approvals
from the Army Corps of Engineers and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission.
Corps officials said they would have to wait for USFWS
approval before proceeding. Which was sent to the Corps on Thursday, the day
the city received it.
FERC approval is required because the land is in Alabama Power
Co.’s flood elevation.
City officials have had ongoing conversations with the Corps
about wetland issues but have resolved them all.
