FEMA purchases McClellan Property
The federal agency that trains first responders at McClellan in Anniston has agreed to buy 94 acres at the former fort for $3.5 million to improve the agency’s services and security.
The McClellan Development Authority, approved a contract to sell the property to the Federal Emergency Management Agency on Wednesday — the largest single sale in the authority’s history. The property includes 16 buildings and all the land currently being leased by the Center for Domestic Preparedness — which trains first responders — along with additional land to better connect the facility's campus and provide extra space to expand training if needed. Meanwhile, the new influx of cash will help the authority to plan and further develop McClellan.
The CDP has 10 federal employees and 700 contractors who train between 14,000 and 15,000 first responders at the McClellan site and nearly 50,000 first responders nationwide each year.
