Two arrested after assaulting Altoona Police Officer

Two people are in custody following a Sunday night attack on an Altoona police officer responding to a possible burglary.  A 911 call came in to the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office on a possible burglary at an Altoona residence. When Altoona Officer Sean Savage responded to the call, he found a couple who’d been involved in a day-long, possibly an all-weekend, altercation,. The situation escalated and both the man and woman attacked the officer.  34 year old Ludwin Peyes, has been charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest, third-degree domestic violence and third-degree escape.  36 year old Annette Nichols, has been charged with second-degree assault, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.  Both are in the Etowah County Detention Center. Nichols is being held on $3,500 bond, and bond for Peyes is set at $7,000.
