ABI investigates officer involved shooting in Pell City

A man was shot by an officer in St. Clair County Friday night after investigators say he assaulted the officer. Pell City investigators say the officer responded to a disturbance call in the Mill Village area.

They say the officer was assaulted and ended up shooting the attacker to defend himself. The gunshot victim is now in the ICU at UAB hospital. The officer was treated and released from St. Vincent's hospital in St. Clair County.

The Alabama Bureau of Investigation is now looking into the incident which is standard procedure when an officer has to use a weapon. Several intersections and one road were closed during the investigation.
