ALDOT awards bid for Talladega sinkhole repair on Alabama highway 21



The Alabama Department of Transportation has awarded an emergency bid to repair two sinkholes on Alabama 21 in Talladega.  Newell Road Builders of Hope Hull submitted the lowest responsible bid of $9.4 million.  The bid came in at more than 15 percent above the original estimated cost of the project   Officials say that Gov. Robert Bentley has not officially signed the contract and the start date of the project has not been determined. ALDOT officials expect the project would begin the first week of August.

Terms of the contract state Newell Road Builders must complete the project within 45 calendar days while ensuring the highway remains closed for no more than 21 calendar days.
