Gadsden man dies in weekend fire

Etowah county sheriff Todd Entrekin reports that a 53 year old Gadsden man was killed in an early morning house fire Saturday morning.   According to the sheriff, Brian Steven Geary  died after a failed attempt to escape from his home on Benson Drive in Gadsden. Geary was able to help his wife seek safety before he died, and she was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for treatment.  Etowah County Sheriff's deputies, the Etowah County Arson Task Force and members of Black Creek, Highland and Lookout Mountain volunteer fire departments responded to the call about 5 a.m. Saturday morning.  Geary's body will be sent for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.
