Gadsden police investigating assault

Gadsden police are investigating a report from a cyclist claiming that he was beaten and robbed Monday near Alabama City. The victim told officers that  he was riding his bicycle through Alabama City when he noticed a red Nissan truck following him. He started to head toward the parking lot at the old General Forrest school, hoping to find a police officer. When he saw one wasn’t there, he headed toward Emma Sansom Homes.  When the victim got near White Avenue, he reported, the truck pulled in front of him on the road and two men jumped out and stopped him. He said the pair pulled him off of his bike and started to hit him in the head and the neck. One of the men threw a brick at him as well, but missed. Shortly afterward, the two men left. The victim noticed his cellphone missing and went to a local towing shop to call for help. When officers arrived, they saw the man’s injuries to his neck and face, and his shirt was torn. The victim refused medical treatment and rode away once the report was completed.
