Gov. Robert Bentley has awarded a $106,875 grant to assist
with the investigation and prosecution of domestic violence cases in Etowah
County. The Etowah County Commission
will use the grant to support the operations of the sheriffs departments
Domestic Violence Unit. The unit investigates domestic violence cases, aids in
the prosecution of abusers and enforces protection orders. The Alabama Department of Economic and
Community Affairs is managing the grant from funds made available by the U.S.
Department of Justice. It will be supplemented by local matching funds of
$35,625.
