A Gadsden based company is expanding into two markets on the
gulf coals beginning this weekend.
Frio's Gourmet Pops founder Andy Harp said Frios will open a permanent
kiosk in Destin Commons Mall, offering many of the same flavors the company has
sold over the last year in Gadsden.
Frios are gourmet frozen pops made from locally grown fruits, vegetables
and dairy products, whenever possible. The name is the "Americanized"
version of the Spanish word for cold - frio.
The pops will continue to be made in Gadsden. For example, Frios'
strawberries, blueberries, cucumbers, peppers, watermelons and cantaloupes come
from farms in the Etowah County area. Lemons and limes come from local
suppliers, and the milk is from Wright Dairy in Alexandria. The pops are
sweetened with locally produced honey, organic sugar or agave. The pops will also be sold from a cart at Lucy
Buffett's Lulu's in Gulf Shores. Selling
from a cart is how Frios started a year ago, on Gadsden's Broad Street. Now the
company is looking to expand even further in the near future.
