Gadsden dedicates new treatment facility

The City of Gadsden celebrated $30 million in improvements to its water and sewer system Thursday, with The dedication of the C.B. Collier Water Treatment Plant marking the end of six years of work - and two-and-a-half years of construction - to bring the city systems in line with new federal guidelines for water treatment.  The system's water treatment plant uses a magnetic ion exchange process, which removes disinfection byproducts and organic chemicals from the water. The new plant is the largest of its kind in North America.   Officials say as a result, G  The plant, named for the city's first water works manager, can accommodate 24 million gallons of water per day, but averages about 10 to 12 million gallons currently. That excess capacity will allow for any kind of industrial growth the city may experience in years to come.
adsdens water is now cleaner before it enters the normal treatment plant.
