Talladega man arrested on drug charges

Charles Sexton

A 49 year old Talladega man is being held on a $20,000 bond after being arrested in a pharmacy parking lot Tuesday by Talladega Police.  Charles Sexton, has been charged with manufacture of a controlled substance in the second degree and felony possession of drug paraphernalia.  According to Talladega Police Capt. Leon Thomas, the events leading up to Sexton’s arrest began with a domestic call between two unrelated parties. The male in that case allegedly stole the female’s cell phone and fled in his car. The woman called police to report the phone stolen, gave a description of the car and a possible destination.  The man apparently picked up Sexton somewhere between the girlfriend’s house and the pharmacy.  An officer recognized the vehicle and called the driver’s name. The driver came out of the vehicle and fought with the officer, but became compliant when threatened with a Taser.  The officer then discovered  what appeared to be methamphetamine lab components in the vehicle with Sexton. The evidence was turned over to the Talladega County Drug and Violent Crime Task Force and Sexton was eventually charged.  The driver was charged with resisting arrest and misdemeanor assault of a police officer.
