Amy Renee Martin |
A Southside woman faces charges for trying to bribe a
witness. Amy Martin was arrested on May 23 and charged with two counts of
Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance and driving with a Revoked
Driver’s License. The routine traffic
stop found Martin to be in possession of hydrocodone and morphine. And, then, on May 28th, Martin was arrested
on the new offence of Bribery of a Witness. Agents from the Etowah County Drug
Enforcement Unit and the District Attorney’s office were conducting an
undercover operation when they uncovered that Martin had offered a thing of
value to her cellmate in an effort to get her to confess that the she - the
cellmate - actually owned the drugs that were subject to her arrest on May 23rd
in attempt to have the Court dismiss her charges. Bribery is a Class C felony and with Martin’s
prior criminal history she faces 10 to 99 years in the State Penitentiary. Martin is being held at the Etowah County
Detention Center on no bond. Etowah District
Attorney Jimmie Harp said the investigation into the Bribery Case is ongoing
and more charges are possible.
