An inmate housed in the Cherokee County Detention Center
died Monday. According to a news release from Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff
Shaver, the identity of the inmate is being withheld pending notification of
next of kin. Shaver said The death was an apparent suicide. The Alabama Bureau
of Investigation has been called in to investigate. The Cherokee County
Coroner's Office and District Attorney are also assisting in the investigation.
