Suspects attempt to burglarize home of police officer

Investigators with the Calhoun County Sheriffs department are holding four suspects apprehended for attempting to burglarize the home of an Anniston police officer.   Sheriff Larry Amerson said his office intends to pursue attempted burglary charges against the suspects.    The sheriff said the suspects rang the doorbell of the officer’s Alexandria home, and when no one answered, they walked to the back of the house and tried to force their way in through a door. When the suspects saw that a woman and her children were in the home, they fled in a green SUV.   Sheriff deputies and the Anniston Police Department searched the area, and an Anniston police cruiser pulled the SUV over. One suspect jumped out of the car and ran, evading police and deputies for more than an hour.   Two residents in the Wellington community saw the suspect and detained him until police arrived.
