I 20 traffic stop lands drug arrest

A traffic stop Sunday in Heflin resulted in officers uncovering a half-pound of methamphetamine.  Chief A.J. Benefield announced in a statement that a police officer stopped a vehicle for a driving violation and noticed the odor of marijuana. A man was driving, along with his girlfriend, her friend and a "very young child." The driver said he had smoked marijuana.  The driver admitted to the officer to having a half ounce of ice in his trunk with scales.  Police also found a gun in the passenger's seat covered up with cloths.  Benefield did not release the man's name, but said the driver was charged with possession of a controlled substance and a concealed firearm. The driver also had an outstanding warrant for a cocaine charge in Mississippi.
