Cleburne County Coroner Ben McKnight has announced he will resign effective Oct. 1, , citing budget cuts as one reason.

Cleburne County is one of a number of Alabama counties caught off-guard by an attorney general opinion stating that county commissions can’t assign county-owned property to county coroners’ offices without special legislation.
