Teacher murder trial set to begin Monday in Anniston



The capital murder trial of a man accused of killing a Calhoun County school teacher in 2011 is set to begin next week in Anniston.
26 year old Jovon Dwayne Gaston,  is charged with the April 2011 killing of Wellborn school teacher Kevin Thompson. Circuit Judge Bud Turner has scheduled the trial to begin Monday.  Nicholas Smith, Tyrone Thompson and Gaston were arrested in 2011 after police said they kidnapped Thompson from his Jacksonville apartment complex, took him to ATMs, stole $400 from him and then stabbed him with a steak knife.
His body was later found in Cherokee County near the Georgia border along U.S. 278.
Nicholas Smith was sentenced to death in 2013 for Thompson's death. Tyrone Thompson is still awaiting trial.
