New information released on Clay County murder

Clay County Sheriff Ray Latham released new details Monday in the investigation of an 18-year-old killed near the Cheaha State Park last month.  In a news release, Latham said the body of 18-year-old Jolee Nicole Callan of Vincent was found just off the Pinhoti Trail near the bottom of a rock cliff in a densely wooded area just south of the state park in Clay County on Aug. 30.  Authorities later arrested 20 year old Loren Daniel Bunner,  of Vincent, on murder charges. A preliminary autopsy determined that Callan was killed by "gunshot wounds to the head." Court documents also state Callan was killed with a gun. Bunner is currently out on $150,000 bond from the Clay County Detention Center. Oxford police said Bunner called Calhoun County 911 Aug. 30 from an area off exit 179 of Interstate 20, which is in Oxford police's jurisdiction. When authorities contacted Bunner, he told them he wanted to talk to someone about an incident involving his girlfriend. By 6 p.m. that day, Clay County Sheriff's Office had been notified of a possible homicide on the Pinhoti Trail in the Cheaha Mountain area near the state park.
