Fugitive captured after standoff with deputies in Cherokee County

Authorities say a 34 year old fugitive who was on the run from police is in custody following a four hour standoff with Cherokee County Sheriff’s deputies.  Sheriff Jeff Shaver said that Harley Ray Davidson, has been charged with breaking and entering into a vehicle, third-degree burglary and second-degree theft of property. Davidson had been  on the run from authorities at the time of his arrest and previously had been placed on Cherokee County’s most wanted list. The sheriff said the standoff began about 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon when the U.S. Marshals Service Gulf Coast Regional Task Force, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and Leesburg Police surrounded a Leesburg motel where Davidson, was armed and barricaded inside a guest room. Negotiators with the sheriff’s office and Alabama Bureau of Investigation communicated with Davidson and eventually were able to convince him to surrender.  The sheriff said that Davidson had repeatedly threatened to harm himself. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed by other agencies.
