U.S. House passes bill to prevent future furloughs at Depot

The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill Thursday that could put a stop to future federal government furloughs. The 2014 Department of Defense Appropriations Act includes an amendment that would ban sequestration-related cuts at installations like the Anniston Army Depot.  If made law, the amendment would apply to civilian DOD employees paid from the Working Capital Fund Account. Congressman Mike Rogers says the furloughs are ill-advised and will create increased costs for taxpayers while damaging the nation’s military readiness. Under the current furloughs, all DOD workers are seeing a nearly twenty percent pay cut. The cuts began July 12th and will result in a total of eleven days without pay before September 30th.
