An Etowah county woman accused in the death of her granddaughter was
back in a Gadsden courtroomTuesday morning where a trial date was set for her
to face the capitol murder charges.
Joyce Garrard faces capital murder charges in the death of 9-year-old Savannah
Hardin. Prosecutors say Garrard made
Savannah pick up debris in the front yard for about three hours as punishment
for a lie she told earlier in the day about eating candy. Later, Hardin
collapsed. She died at a hospital three
days later.A judge has set a trial date for June of 2014, but Garrard must
appear before the court again on October 18, 2013, for a status hearing. She was denied bond in May.
