Gadsden officials say they will unveil Signs designating
U.S. Highway 431/278 in Gadsden as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Parkway
on Aug. 10. The unveiling will be
followed by a program honoring Dr. King and five other civil rights activists
at the Gadsden City high School. The
signs will be placed at the Gadsden city limits at Glencoe and Attalla. The
dedication and unveiling will be at 10 a.m. near North Glencoe Baptist Church,
near the Gadsden/Glencoe city limits. A resolution authorizing the signs and
designation was approved this year by the Alabama Legislature. The Gadsden City
Council had requested the local delegation pass the resolution. The signs and
honorary designation will not affect the Meighan Boulevard name or addresses
for businesses
