Gadsden police are investigating a report from a cyclist claiming that
he was beaten and robbed Monday near Alabama City. The victim told officers
that he was riding his bicycle through
Alabama City when he noticed a red Nissan truck following him. He started to
head toward the parking lot at the old General Forrest school, hoping to find a
police officer. When he saw one wasn’t there, he headed toward Emma Sansom
Homes. When the victim got near White
Avenue, he reported, the truck pulled in front of him on the road and two men
jumped out and stopped him. He said the pair pulled him off of his bike and
started to hit him in the head and the neck. One of the men threw a brick at
him as well, but missed. Shortly afterward, the two men left.The victim noticed
his cellphone missing and went to a local towing shop to call for help. When
officers arrived, they saw the man’s injuries to his neck and face, and his
shirt was torn. The victim refused medical treatment and rode away once the
report was completed.
