The Alabama National Guard held the grand opening Thursday
for the new Armed Forces Reserve Center (AFRC) on Pelham Range, in
Alexandria. The new center is the first
of its kind in Alabama. The design of the building has earned the facility the
U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design
Platinum certification. This is the highest classification the Council
awards. Along with being an
environmentally friendly, Col. Brian Barrontine, with the Alabama National
Guard, said
The Armed Forces Reserve Center is a joint facility between
the Alabama National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserves. Local Guard and Reserve
units use this facility for training, drills and recruiting.
