Bond was denied Monday for an Odenville
man charged with the murder of his cousin. St. Clair County Circuit
Court Judge Phil Seay issued an order denying a bond request from 31
year old Jeffery “Wayne” Finney Jr., who is charged with the
September 2012 murder of his cousin, 34 year old Rickey “Shane”
Williams, of Riverside. A tentative murder trial date is set for
Nov. 4.
Finney was originally arrested in September after allegedly killing and dragging his cousin’s body with a car in Riverside. A preliminary autopsy report indicated Williams died from asphyxiation due to ligature strangulation and blunt force injuries. Defense attorneys alleged Finney killed Williams in self-defense. According to testimony at the October preliminary hearing, both men have or had mental issues. St. Clair County District Court Judge Alan Furr originally set Finney’s bond at $500,000, but reduced the amount to $250,000 at the request of defense attorneys. Finney was released on bond and subsequently arrested a few weeks later after allegedly attempting to steal a cell phone from Fred’s Department Store in Ashville.
Finney remains in the St. Clair County Jail in Pell City.
