Alabama Power Scam

There have been several recent incidents involving people pretending to work for Alabama Power. Last week a fake Alabama Power Twitter account was shut down. There have also been reports of a recording that asks customers to leave personal information. Then there is a scam where customers are given a short deadline to make a payment. According to Alabama Power, a lot of commercial customers are being targeted for this last scam that has had a higher success rate than others.
According to alabama power communications specialist Freddy Padilla, customers are called and told they have a short deadline to make a payment. The scammer is asking them to go to a local retailer to purchase a money pack for the given amount. They are then instructed to call another number to share the account number on that prepaid card.
Padell said the company will not show up at your door or call to ask for bank information or a credit card number. Do not let the person inside your home and hang up the phone.
If you have questions about your account or whether a person really works for Alabama Power you should call 1-888-430-5787.
