Gadsden Homocide

Gadsden police are investigating yet another homocide, its third in five days. Police say a man was shot early this morning near his home in East Gadsden. Deputy Etowah County Coroner Michael Head said 45 year old Willie Brown, was shot multiple times with what appeared to be an AK-47-style rifle. Head said a 911 call came in about 12:28 this morning and he pronounced Brown dead about 3:11 a.m. Head said Brown had left his home on Kentucky Avenue and got into a black Cadillac when someone apparently approached the vehicle and opened fire. Brown threw the vehicle into reverse and tried to flee before hitting a stump in his front yard and coming to rest with the vehicle half in the yard, half in the road. Another drive-by shooting early Saturday on the bridge across the Coosa River on Meighan Boulevard left two Gadsden men 51 year old Billy Baker, and 35 year old Jobari Player, dead. An AK-47-style rifle also was used in that shooting. Head said that this mornings incident appeared that someone had laid in wait for Brown to leave before opening fire.
Brown’s body was taken to Huntsville for an autopsy.
