Former Gadsden minister indicted in wife's murder

A Jefferson County grand jury has indicted a former minister of a Gadsden Church in the death of his wife and the wounding of his teenage. Court records show Terry Greer was indicted for murder in 52-year-old Lisa Greer’s death and attempted murder in his daughter Suzanna’s shooting. The indictments were not made public until this week. The shootings occurred Jan. 10 at the family’s church-owned home in Gardendale. Greer has pleaded not guilty. The 54-year-old Greer had served as pastor of Gardendale-Mount Vernon United Methodist Church in Jefferson County. He transferred there last year after spending eight years in Decatur. Authorities say Greer tried to stab himself to death after the slaying. Investigators say Suzanna got the gun away from her father and ran to a neighbor’s house for help. Greer became pastor of Central United Methodist Church in Gadsden in 1997, and was instrumental in that church’s move in 2002 to Rainbow City, where it was renamed Christ Central Church. He left in 2004 for the pastorate in Decatur.
