Groundbreaking set for Gadsden Development

Developers announced Tuesday that Ground breaking for the River Trace Shopping Center will be held later this month. John Abernathy, director of development and leasing for Blackwater resources told the Gadsden city council that he hopes that activity will begin within two weeks with equipment and trailers being brought onto the property. He told the council that stores would open “between June and August” next year. Blackwaters plans include a 200,000-square-foot development at the location of the former River Trace Golf Course in East Gadsden adjacent to Walmart. Abernathy would not say what stores would be involved in the development, saying the stores would make those announcements. He said after the meeting that some announcements could come this fall.
